The most effective writing advice I’ve ever heard:
a) Give yourself permission to write poorly and b) only commit to a minimum of 200 words per day.
The former loosens the grip of the vile perfectionist dictator, and the latter is an easily obtainable goal that gets the juices flowing for thousands of words to come (but even if it doesn’t, at least you accomplished your writing goal).
Giving yourself permission to write poorly doesn’t mean that you’ll write poorly, btw.
It just means you’ll write.
And for some of us, THAT’S what is important.
